Citizen Jane: Battle for the City, is a film about cities through the lens of Jane Jacobs. This timely and inspirational documentary chronicles legendary writer and urban activist Jane Jacobs’ battle to preserve urban neighbourhoods from the destructive development plans of ruthless power broker Robert Moses.

In her epochal book The Death and Life of Great American Cities, author and activist Jane Jacobs helped change the way we look at urban living. Released on the centenary of her birth, Citizen Jane focuses on Jacobs’ most dramatic battle in the 1960s.

Exciting and inspirational, Citizen Jane delivers a timely and much-needed lesson on how the power of the people can win out against the self-serving plans of the elite.

This film is being presented by the High Park Community Alliance, which is raising funds to challenge Minto and Great West Life’s development proposals at the Ontario Municipal Board. The developers’ plans for this apartment building neighbourhood would add 6 towers and 1700 units to one of Toronto’s most densely populated residential areas.
